PAST PRODUCTIONS
From 1999 (when it was founded) to 2011, Playwrights 6 produced more than 20 original shows, all written by Los Angeles playwrights. The production of Where the Dead Men Lost Their Bones marks the return of P6 to the stage after a 7-year hiatus. The number of Critic's Picks, award nominations and rave reviews was remarkable for this theater company, one of a handful of elite playwright-managed companies in the United States. For example, of its third production, a collection of one-acts called Do You Want to Know a Secret?, Backstage West said in its Critic's Pick review: "The real secret behind the success of Do You Want to Know a Secret? is Playwrights 6, a talented new company of former and current members of the Playwrights Kitchen Ensemble."
G. Bruce Smith, one of P6's founding members, has had an equally praiseworthy career as a playwright, whether his work has been produced by P6 or many other theaters throughout the world. For example, the Santa Monica Mirror said of his play Butterfly Wings that “This highly theatrical, exquisitely written, poetic piece plumbs the depths of concerns and issues facing three college friends in war-time America.”
